Why ABS instead of sheet steel?
Plastic enclosures are the pragmatic choice wherever moisture, cleaning agents or salt-laden air will eventually blister a painted steel housing. These enclosures stand up to chemicals, alkalis, oils and salts – exactly what surfaces face every day in workshops, food processing plants, agriculture and coastal locations. ABS does not corrode, it insulates electrically, and it weighs a fraction of a comparable steel cabinet. It also drills, mills and saws cleanly: you can fit cable glands, displays or ventilation grilles yourself with standard workshop tools, with no deburring and no touch-up paint. The ABS used here is halogen-free, so a fire produces no corrosive halogen compounds to destroy the surrounding electronics.
IK10 – tougher than most plastic enclosures
IK10 is the highest impact rating under EN 62262 and corresponds to 20 joules – the equivalent of a 5 kg mass dropped from 40 cm. A falling spanner, a glancing hit from a pallet truck, or a knock from an elbow in a tight aisle will not crack it. Many budget plastic distribution boxes sit at IK07 or IK08, a factor of five to ten lower.
Mounting plate included – ready to build
Every enclosure ships with a galvanised steel mounting plate. The zinc coating provides lasting corrosion protection and an electrically conductive surface at the same time – useful if you want to land shield clamps or EMC bonding directly on the plate. The plate sits on pre-fitted threaded studs and lifts out completely for fitting. Instead of working overhead inside an installed cabinet, you assemble DIN rails, terminal blocks, power supplies and controllers comfortably on the bench and drop the finished assembly in as one unit. That saves noticeable time on every build – and again on every retrofit or service call.
Ready for -35 °C to +65 °C
The wide temperature range makes these enclosures viable outdoors all year: unheated halls in winter, pump houses, solar balance-of-system equipment, rooftop installations in high summer. The continuous seal around the door and hinges stays flexible and maintains the protection rating through many opening cycles. Where temperature swings are severe, fit a pressure compensation vent to keep condensation out of the interior.
Typical applications
- Controls for CNC machines, mills and lathes
- Stepper and servo drive stages including power supply
- Terminal and distribution boxes in workshops and industrial halls
- Field-mounted sensors and instrumentation
- Pump, ventilation and heating controls
- Solar and battery storage peripherals
- Agriculture, food processing and washdown areas
Choosing the right size
Plan generously. Add at least 20 % to the bare component width for wiring space and later expansion, and pay particular attention to internal depth – power supplies and drives with heatsinks are often deeper than expected. Leave at least 40 mm above the DIN rail for cable routing. One point on the rating: IP65 applies to the fully assembled enclosure only. Use cable glands rated IP65 or better for every entry, and close unused openings with blanking plugs.
If you have questions about selection, get in touch directly – we build control systems ourselves and know what matters inside an enclosure.

Advantages of Rocketronics
About Rocketronics
Rocketronics was founded in 1999 as a family business by Louis Schreyer. As an engineer for microelectronics, I design hardware and also develop the software for it. We manufacture our products in-house on our own machines, and this for over 20 years now - made in Germany. In addition to the development and production, the testing of the products is also carried out here. We also manufacture the prototype construction and the test fixtures ourselves. We use lathes and milling machines for this, but we also use our 3D printers a lot. The CNC milling machines we build ourselves produce many small parts, e.g. for the housings of our controllers. In addition to manufacturing controllers, we also trade in the necessary components. As a dealer we have a large stock of components for machine building and automation, which we offer in this store. Our suppliers are the original manufacturers, with us you buy tested branded goods.
We also consult you when it comes to choosing the right components. We have a lot of experience in building and operating CNC milling machines and lathes. We can help you if you have questions, be it about the control system, the choice of drives or in general about the construction of CNC milling machines and the conversion of lathes.
Our online store shows you all items available for immediate delivery, and allows you to shop securely with many payment methods and fast shipping. Data traffic is of course encrypted, payment is processed and secured by reputable service providers, and we offer a 30-day return policy.
